Rihanna’s new makeup line Fenty Beauty has been an instant success — and it’s not only popular because Rihanna’s name is attached to it. Fenty Beauty carries a wide range of foundations — 40 to be exact — which has the beauty industry shook. Cosmetics and the beauty industry as a whole, has a long history of creating products that did not match deeper-toned people of color. There are a number of factors that have lead many mainstream beauty companies to having a narrow selection for people of color — and not all of those reasons are rooted in product development. With Fenty Beauty, Rihanna is showing the industry that it’s worth investing money and time into creating nuanced products beyond the ranges of ivory, beige, and tan.

Can y’all stop trying to make a video that’s clearly not about you, all about you 🙄

The fact that I can find my shade and another person can’t is just wrong. Be more inclusive or don’t even make a product.

Why are you selecting out the ACS to look at which really has nothing to do with this. As stated earlier in the video…the compounds needed already exist and are quite basic. This specifically isn't a chemistry problem; this is an industry and societal problem. As a side note, and former member of ACS, is the lack of diversity troubling…yes. Should it be remedied….yes. It's just not really a relevant factor here.

Friendly reminder that if you’re reading this, your skin colour is beautiful and doesn’t need changing 🙂

We still have skin whitening products in India. ‘Fair and Lovely’ is a product and the product name gives the entire idea.

Sooo many makeup brands don't include yellow undertoned shades… ALL of that variety in beige and ALL those ORANGE tones, and none that serve a yellow undertoned Chinese like myself 🙁

Why do you go on with this word "inclusivity"? Black people should be producing their own brands which is what Rihanna is doing. Good for her.

All this just because of an evolutionary adaptation in humans. Seriously, people who were born near the equator have darker skin so that they could withstand the exposure to the sun when it comes to living there. My gosh.

If I'm Mexican would I be grey? 😂

The brands would make so much more money if they cared about all of their customers.

Bruh I can’t even afford to buy a mineral sunscreen that matches my skin. Forget about foundations. I have to wear sunscreen that makes me look I have concrete on my face and then cover it with eyeshadow.

Don't wait for the white company to come up with your make up. Make your own company! No that would be powerful.

for someone who can't find any foundation that match perfectly on my skintone, i can relate. i have to mix atleast 2 different shade of foundation to get the right shade and it's getting annoying and wasting time 🙃
